For all of the work that I make, there is work that goes more to the heart of what I want to do. It is work that is more personal, or more ambitious. Sometimes it wants to speak to a broader audience. It is more demanding of my time, my attention, my instinct and desire. It's the work that I need to be braver for, and more persevering. It is more "my voice," even as I try to find that voice. And so,
finally,
the art quilt I started last summer in Rosalie Dace's class at A Quilter's Affair, is finished. At least, one segment of it is finished. There will be 3 sections when all is done.
Hand and machine stitching, embellished with hand stitched embroidery and beading, machine and hand quilting. Uneven edges, witness to the maker's hand, happily conveying the sense of primal instinct.
Onto the next, for in life's work, there's always lots still to do.
